Have you ever been confused about what to do with your pelvis in yoga twists? I know I have!
That’s because we tend to hear mixed messaging when it comes to this yoga alignment issue:
-
On the one hand, we’re often taught that we should keep our pelvis “square” in twists.
-
But on the other hand, we’re also often taught that we should not square the pelvis; we should instead let the pelvis turn with the spine in twists.
These are two opposite instructions for the same body part in the same type of yoga pose. Confusing, right?? 🤔 Which instruction is correct?
Luckily, I address this meaty topic using movement science in this yoga alignment tutorial!
This video explains the connection between pelvic alignment and injury and safety in twists. I also share important biomechanical considerations about yoga twists in general, which better inform our yoga practice and teaching.
I hope you appreciate this movement science-based tutorial on the pelvis in twists! ⬇️
