Have you ever though about that the colour of your mat can have a purpose and that it can affect your exercise? During your exercise you become one with your mat, keeping a steady grip with your hands and toes and a returning gaze in many poses. As we know, colour affect our mood and feelings and it’s a great tool for communication and expression of our emotions.
Depending on the intention and mood, you might want to express harmony or get powerful support for your personality or maybe even unblock a certain energy. Our body have 7 different energy centers, Chakras, that energy flows through. Body holds our emotions and sometimes by stress, emotional or physical problems, chakras can get blocked. By colour and poses you can help to balance your energies.
RED
Energetic, vibrant and passionate. It lits fire under your feet. Red stands for the Root chakra, which is about survival and grounding. This chakra is located at the very base of your spine, near your tailbone. When it’s blocked, you can experience feeling of fear or defensiveness. A yogic exercise that could help you unblock the energy is the Crow Pose, bringing our pranic energy to the base of the spine.
ORANGE
Orange stands for balanced, warm and enthusiastic. It’s also playful and adventures. Orange represent the Sacral chakra, that stands for identity, relationships and sexuality. It’s located below your belly button. When it’s blocked, what you can experience is emotional pain, sexual guilt or compulsive behaviour. Yoga movements, like Pelvic lifts, open the hips and relaxes the pelvis.
YELLOW
Yellow means joyous, happy and hopeful. There is no one like a yellow person that lights up a room and spreads optimism. It’s for confident and positive spirits. Yellow stands for Solar Plexus and can be found in the centre of belly button up to the breastbone. When this chakra is blocked, you can feel frustration, anger or lost “gut feeling”. To balance the energy, engage your abdominal muscles by doing the Front platform pose.
GREEN
Green is natural, youthful, smart and peaceful. The charka of green is Heart, which is about love for yourself and others. As you can hear on the name, it’s placed right over your heart. Blockage can show itself as low immune system, heart problems or lack of compassion to others. To open up your heart energy, you can practice Heart-Centering Meditation.
BLUE
Blues stands for calm, honest and steady. They move very elegant and flow like water. Nothing but inappropriate or flashy. Chakra is Throat and stands for communication and is placed right between your collarbone. When your throat is balanced, you will speak with love, kindness and truth.
PURPLE
Purple is sophisticated, mysterious and wise. Purple people are creative and spiritual. A purple mat will evoke senses of elegance to your practice and get you to new spiritual highs. Third Eye is this colour’s charka and its placed between your eyebrows.
WHITE
White is pure, innocent and peaceful. White people have the ability to cleanse others and make them feel balanced. The white chakra is Crown and stands for pure consciousness energy. Its located at the top of your head.
