A new way of making thin-crust pizza that’s lower in calories and easy to put together. Oh, and it tastes as good as any other homemade pizza!

When it comes to pizza, the innovations and techniques folks come up with never cease to amaze me. And this is a great example; using a flour tortilla instead of a traditional crust! It makes sense because tortillas are the same shape as a pizza crust, and crisp up in a similar way when baked in the oven.
The simplicity of this recipe is what stands out the most to me. All you need is sauce, cheese, and your favorite pizza toppings. You can also use different-sized tortillas to cater to different appetites.
Perhaps most importantly, with a lot less crust, the flavors of the cheese, sauce, and toppings become even greater because they aren’t hiding behind the crust, which is why following this recipe gave me one of the best pizzas I’ve ever had.
Is Tortilla Pizza Healthy?
Using a flour tortilla instead of a normal pizza crust is a great way to have pizza with fewer calories.
However, the overall nutritional profile of the pizza will largely depend on the toppings. If you’re looking for a healthy meal, I suggest using a mix of vegetables that will help provide vitamins and other nutrients. In other words, the healthiness of this pizza is up to you, although using a tortilla is a good start.
Pizza Tips
The best advice for a tortilla pizza is similar to any homemade pizza. For starters, if you want the tortilla crust to be crispy, cook it directly on a preheated baking sheet. Also, keep a close eye on the pizza while it’s baking. Since the tortilla isn’t as thick as a traditional crust, it will start to burn sooner than you think. When you notice the edges becoming brown and the cheese bubbling, it’s time to pull it from the oven.
As for toppings, you’re free to decide based on your personal tastes. But don’t forget that the tortilla won’t be as thick as a normal crust, so don’t overload this pizza with too many ingredients or it’ll end up soggy. Also, be careful to not add too much spinach, mushrooms, or other ingredients that release water when they cook. This can also lead to a soggy pizza, which is more likely with a thin tortilla as opposed to a traditional crust.

FAQs & Tips
Tortilla pizzas can be assembled ahead of time and placed either in the refrigerator or freezer until you’re ready to bake them in the oven, but be aware that the longer they sit for, the soggier the base may be as it absorbs the moisture from the sauce and toppings. However, since they’re quick to assemble, you may not need to prepare them in advance at all.
Try to avoid using more sauce than the recipe recommends. Using too much pizza sauce can make a tortilla pizza soggy.
In addition to traditional pizza sauce, you can make a tortilla pizza with pesto, BBQ sauce, or Alfredo sauce – anything goes!

Serving Suggestions
I typically like to have a salad with my pizza to create a more balanced meal. Specifically, I would recommend a Caprese Salad or perhaps this Salmon Caesar Salad. Also, this Mediterranean Low-Carb Broccoli Salad is so tasty with a side of pepperoni tortilla pizza.
If you prefer to mix things up a little, I suggest either this Fried Zucchini or these Zucchini Fries to help ensure there’s at least one vegetable in the meal. Of course, I understand that it can be hard to resist the urge to make a tasty side dish like these Oven-Baked Mozzarella Sticks or these Air Fryer Onion Rings.
