This approach to the omelette is a little different, a little contemporary, and most importantly, hands-off!

Though its early origins are often disputed, the omelette is a well-known French staple. Over time it’s undeniable that it has become a favorite the world over.
It has been modified and retooled again and again, and here we have yet another fabulous iteration of this classic dish. Omelettes can be intimidating, requiring near-constant supervision, patience, and skill to know when to fold at the exact right time. This approach pretty much takes care of those pain points. For instance, the air fryer has a ‘set and forget’ feature and technically functions as a food warmer, keeping the omelette at the right temperature without the risk of burning. We love that for us.
I’d take my mother’s omelette – bursting with Swiss cheese, portobello and fresh parsley – over any other omelette any day of the week. But you’ve probably attempted to make an omelette the old-fashioned way before and it maybe wasn’t the smashing success you’d hoped for. Let’s be honest: the delicate eggs, the heat, the timing – the sheer choreography of it all can be a lot. However, with this air fryer shortcut, making omelettes is a breeze and they’re no longer just a special occasion breakfast, not that I don’t also adore a good special occasion breakfast.
Is Air Fryer Omelette Healthy?
With eggs being low in saturated fat and high in protein, an omelette makes for a wonderfully healthy breakfast. And this method requires significantly less fat (oil or butter) making it even more heart-healthy. You’ll only improve the nutritional benefits by adding things like spinach and bell pepper, which are rich in vitamins A, C, and K, and loaded with iron, folate, and potassium. If you prefer to leave out the egg yolks, you can easily make this omelette using egg whites separated from the yolks.
You might have looked around recently and noticed how suddenly ubiquitous air fryers have become. The first big boom happened in 2017 and continued through 2019 followed by a sharp surge in popularity at the onset of pandemic lockdowns. Households everywhere became labs for tinkering around, experimenting with kitchen ‘hacks,’ and the air fryer was at the center of it all. On the heels of that cultural obsession came the collective realization that this hotly sought-after tool has a surprising number of uses, not least of which is making omelettes – a notoriously misunderstood breakfast food – more accessible to all.

FAQs & Tips
You can absolutely make this ahead, store in the fridge in an airtight container, and reheat later. Just be sure to consume within three days. Reheating in the oven is preferred.
Depending on how hungry you are, it’s a safe bet to go with 2-3 eggs per person. For three people, 9 eggs should suffice!
It’s common for restaurants (and think old-school diners) to use an electric mixer to whip the egg mixture before quickly adding it to a hot pan. The egg tends to soufflé and the result is this lovely, very fluffy consistency. At home, you can mimic this by using a mixer or an immersion blender to whip the eggs to a nice airy texture before cooking.
Serving Suggestions
As any omelette fiend will tell you, you can’t go wrong with a nice crusty, rustic bread on the side. Lightly toasted with a pat of butter is even better. I for one am a big fan of these delicious hash browns, or if I’m wanting something lighter, I’ve found this green goddess salad always does the trick. Were you aware that eating salad for breakfast could be this elite? Now you do!
