If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen a WHOLE bunch of Instagram stories a few months ago where I was testing out some natural, non-toxic beauty products. I asked you guys if this is something you wanted to hear more about since, you know, we usually talk about food, faith and fitness only.
And, well, the answer was YES.
Let’s back it up. Many of you may NOT know that I am actually a trained, and certified, professional makeup artist.
When I graduated high school, I had big dreams of becoming a celebrity makeup artist and traveling the world. So, I went to school to become a makeup artist. I even learned how to do special FX makeup!

Obviously, I have a passion for makeup and skin care. Even though I don’t do it for a living, it’s still something that is near and dear to my heart as it something I am professionally trained in,
But, I need to be honest with you. I always LOVED wearing makeup, and doing makeup, but I NEVER once really thought about what is IN the makeup that I was spreading all over my face EACH AND EVERY DAY. You think I would, especially since your skin is your biggest organ.
Then, my friend Alyssa from The Everyday Maven showed me the “Think Dirty” app (download it here) which allows you to search any product and see all the toxins it has in it. It also gives it a rating of 1-5 based on how dangerous it is for you. I found out all my makeup was scoring 4 or 5 because of things like carcinogens and toxins that can disrupt your reproductive system. AND I WAS PUTTING THAT ON MY FACE.

Nourishing Cream Cleanser
Makeup starts with great skin right? Well, I used to use a SUPER cheap cream to wash my face in the morning and night, and it always left my face feeling dry – even when I put lotion on after! I assumed that was just “normal.”
BUT, then I tried THIS wash and my face felt so SOFT and moist after. Not of that dryness. It also has a really yummy “orangey” smell that I love! Your face is gonna feel CLEAN and hydrated ALL at the same time!
The cleanser contains skin-toning witch hazel, plus hydrating coconut oil and soothing aloe!
Nourishing Day Cream
Like I said above, my face felt great after using the cleanser. BUT, it’s still SUPER important to put cream on after. The one I used to use, never REALLY felt like it was super moisturizing, but I just went with it.
I now use THIS cream day AND night, and my skin feels SO soft and not dry anymore! Plus, the formula is really lightweight, so your face isn’t left feeling all greasy after you put it on…and, you only need a SMALL amount, so it lasts forever!
It’s unscented and contains a mix of organic coconut oil, safflower oil, and aloe to provide nourishing hydration, plus antioxidant-rich acai to protect against dry skin. Yes to superfoods on your skin!
No. 3 Balance Facial Mask
You guys may have seen this on Instagram stories awhile back. Like we said above, if you want your makeup to look great, it’s important to start with your best skin. I never used to be a huge “mask person” but I was intrigued by it being made of charcoal.
You guys. After using this mask just once my skin felt like ALL the impourities were gone, and it felt all tight and firm!
This mask purifies pores and helps to clarify the skin, removes excess oils, refines and smoothes skin and improves skin clarity and tone!
Tint Skin Foundation
You guys. I am a HUGE believer in wearing foundation. Think of foundation as the canvas for your makeup – it truly is what makes your makeup look even, flawless and perfect. Foundation also goes ALL OVER YOUR face, which I never really thought about before. But, this is why it’s definitely something that should be non-toxic!
You guys, Skin Tint Foundation it is SO light and I don’t even feel like I am wearing foundation. It’s also super even, moisturizing and makes the rest of my makeup go on great.
Instead of a bunch of weird chemicals, it uses Sodium Hyaluronate which supports the skin’s water retention and nutrient absorption, promotes smoother looking skin and reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
Touch Up Skin Concealer Pen
I LOVE THIS CONCEALER. I WOULD SING IT FROM THE ROOF TOPS
Ok, so. There is only SO much that foundation can do, and some areas just need a little bit of love. Personally, I get some pretty big dark circles under my eyes pretty regularly, and had really struggled to find a good cover up. We learned about a lot in make-up school, but they were specialized and you could only find them at fancy makeup stores that sell special FX makeup.
This concealer covers ASs well as all the super expensive, hard to find Special FX makeup that I worked with in makeup school and it blends really well! I AM IN LOVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.
Instead of using something like BHT which causes cancer and hormone disruption, this concealer uses Knotgrass extract which helps to preserve skin elasticity; reduces the signs of photo-aging and fine lines. WINNER.

Color Sweep Blush Duo in Tawny/Whisper
What I LOVE about this duo is that you get a darker color to act as a counter, and a lighter color to act as the actual blush. I think this color looks great on almost every skin color and it goes on SO smooth and evenly. You know when you put blush on and one random spot is darker and the rest is lighter because the powder is just so heavy and uneven? NOT HERE.
It uses Porcelain Flower Extract that comes from Thailand. In traditional medicine it has been known to have anti-inf lammatory effects, and has been used to treat skin irritations or wounds. The extract has antibacterial, soothing and moisturizing properties. Pretty legit for a blush!
