So you’ve decided you want to continue your yoga journey by undertaking a teacher training; first off, you’ve made the right choice! Whether you want to teach or not, doing a yoga teacher training (ytt) will not only improve your own yoga practice, but also it will give you invaluable tools to radically transform your health and life (and the lives of those around you), and you will be guaranteed to make friends for life.
Traditionally most people immediately think of India or South East Asia when considering a ytt – and of course these places have their advantages (and disadvantages!) – but you maybe didn’t know that there are a host of great yoga schools right on your doorstep, here in Europe, that offer trainings in traditional yoga styles, but with all the Western comforts and amenities. While these courses might not be any cheaper than in Asia (in fact, they tend to be more expensive than India), bear in mind that you will save money on airfare and visas (if you currently live in Europe), and you don’t need to worry about things like vaccinations. If you are not that used to solo travel, or not as comfortable with venturing further afield, this could be a great option for you.
But how to sift through all the options out there? We have narrowed down the search for you, with our handpicked list of the best yoga teacher training courses in Europe.

Skillfully blending East and West traditions, you will also learn how to set up your yoga business, develop your marketing skills and online presence, and understand the ethics of yoga teaching. There is also an emphasis on safe, hands-on adjustments, and offering suitable modifications to your students. 4. Love Evolve Awaken
Love Evolve Awaken’s 200hr teacher training is not like most other ytts; for this reason their website states right away that their trainings “are not for everyone”! There is much more focus on the spiritual and philosophical side to yoga, which would therefore appeal to anyone who was looking to go on a journey of self-discovery, rather than only looking to gain a qualification. While the course still covers the usual asana and anatomy modules, there are also opportunities to try new and unusual practices such as tantra (no nudity involved!), a weekly cacao kirtan ceremony, the use of a steam room and sauna, and weekend trips to nearby places such as Pisa. There is also an additional 4 day module included in the price, which changes according to the dates chosen; you can choose from Ayurveda, Bhakti, or a silent retreat. The teachers and founders of the school really ‘walk the walk’, and have a wealth of experience in meditation, tantra and bhakti yoga. If you want a life-changing experience, this is the training to choose. While the course is more expensive than most other 200hr trainings, it does comprise 33 days (while other 200hr trainings tend to be only around 21 days). They are also offering a special, limited-time-only, discount due to COVID19, so book soon!
-
Key points:
- Not cheap, but has more days (33) than other 200hr courses (there are actually 250 hours in total)

5. Gayatri Yoga
Despite being the cheapest of all the 200hr trainings listed here, Gayatri’s 200hr training still covers everything that a 200hr should, including an introduction to Ayurveda and yoga therapy. Accommodation is included in the price but food is not; on the other hand, the school states that the kitchen is so well-equipped you shouldn’t need to buy much extra food. Flights to Tenerife from mainland Europe also tend to be reasonable, so this could be a great budget option, whilst still giving you the feel of an island getaway.
-
Key points:
- Cheapest (however, it is self-catering)
- Small group size (12 max)
- Female only accommodation
- Classes in Ayurveda and yoga therapy

6. Durga’s Tiger School
The 200hr training offered by Durga’s Tiger School in Europe is unique in many regards. The training is based predominantly on Kaula Tantra yoga, a form of yoga that involves longer holds (of asanas) in a slower flow, with less emphasis on ‘correct’ alignment and more space for individual expression. Students are also taught Ayurvedic walking massage, partner yoga, kundalini, applied tantric wisdom, and shamanism, and have the opportunity of exploring their creative side through expressive arts, mantra and dance. With links to the ZEGG community in Berlin, there is also a strong emphasis on open communication (with weekly ‘talking stick’ circles, etc.), and learning how to listen to others and to create open, inclusive spaces of support. While the course is one of the more expensive options (especially their Greek training), this truly is a unique course that offers a lot more than a simple teaching qualification.
-
Key points:
- Most expensive for 200hr (in Greece) + for Greece only 2 meals included, lunch is extra; Spain includes 3 meals
- Slower flows/holds, less emphasis on how pose ‘should look’/alignment
- Classes on chakras, sacred sexuality and the relationship with yoga, kundalini exercises, partner yoga, conscious touch, Durga’s tiger Dance, arts, shamanism, yogic walking massage
Location: Greece (Corfu), Germany (Berlin), or Spain (Granada)
Style: Kaula Tantra yoga, Expressive Arts, Shamanism
Offers: 200hr
Price: €2820 (Spain), 2874 (Berlin), 3580 (Greece)

In addition, you will also have workshops in Pilates, Ayurveda, and raw vegan nutrition, plus the opportunity to attain your level 1 Reiki certificate! 8. Frog Lotus Yoga International
Led by the school’s founder, Vidya Jacqueline Heisel, who has over 40 years’ teaching experience, the 200hr training at Frog Lotus is a very thorough, traditional training in Vinyasa flow, located at the beautiful Suryalila retreat centre in Southern Spain. For those looking for a detailed, traditional approach to yoga, but who are not able to study in India, this might be the course for you. This is one of the most expensive options for 200hrs, although the accommodation is more ‘high-end’ (even the dorm room looks luxurious!) and all meals are included.
