Sahasrara Chakra – Crown of Divine Consciousness
![]()
Sahasrara Chakra, or Crown Chakra, is the one at the top of the human system and the seventh energy centre. It exists at the very top of the Crown of the head and is a thousand-petaled lotus that represents the flower of pure consciousness.
Sahasrara is not a chakra but the structure itself. It is that towards which all of the other chakras’ journeys, from survival to awareness, from desire to devotion, from individuality to infinity, are directed.
It is here that the seeker becomes one with the sought. The “I” that has been attempting to heal, to expand, and to become wise at last, let’s go and is a clean being. It vanishes in this chakra, which stands for enlightenment, oneness, and liberation-the place where the river merges with the sea. Spiritually, the Crown Chakra brings you back to Source God, the Universe, the Divine, Consciousness, whatever you prefer to label it. That’s where you go beyond the illusion of separation and fill yourself out as part of the bigger picture.
When the energy hub grows, life is no longer by chance; life becomes a stream from divinity. All that is experienced is meaningful and benevolent. Ego dissolves, sense of gratitude reigns, and serene joy emanates from one’s self.
Sahasrara also directs us to learn that spirituality is not escapism from life but, rather, realisation of life itself as sacred.
1. Symbolism & Core Associations
Location: At the Crown of the head, as a halo.
Element: Pure Awareness / Thought beyond thought
Colour: Violet or white – purity, transcendence, and enlightenment
Mantra: Om or silent awareness (beyond sound)
Sense: None, because it is beyond all five senses
Gland: Pineal gland (spiritual antenna tuning to higher awareness)
Symbol: the thousand-petaled lotus, infinite awareness projecting in all directions
Association with Deity: The formless Shiva or the dissolving of Shakti into Shiva
This chakra relates to higher levels of awareness, spiritual consciousness, and cosmic consciousness. It is the terminal awareness of our own spiritual unfolding, the place where we become aware that we are as witness as we are witnessed.
The open awakened Sahasrara is a soft melting away, so boundaries of being and self lose their hold. No longer is there resistance or attachment-only being.
2. Psychological & Emotional Themes
Sahasrara Chakra enacts the psychological processes of faith, release, and higher awareness. While Third Eye perceives truth, the Crown is truth.
An open Crown Chakra feels like deep peace, balanced spirituality, a sense of direction, and a sense of blending with all of existence. The person feels cared for and protected by something greater than self; intuition is firmly grounded, and challenge meets acceptance and equanimity.
Indicators of a Balanced Crown Chakra:
- Inner peace, one with God
- Belief in the profound current of life
- Spiritual insight rock-solid, ego-less.
- Long periods of deep meditation and inner tranquillity
- Grateful, humble
- Spirit of service: living compassionately and in higher purpose
Indicators of Imbalance or Blockage:
- Spirit confusion or unfaith
- Intellectualisation of the spiritual to excess
- Cynicism or disconnection from meaning
- Depression, loneliness, or despair about life
- Headaches or other disorientation symptoms
- Difficulty grounding-feeling “too airy” or disconnected from the body
If underactive, you’ll become lost to your spirit or out of touch, existing solely in materialism and reason.
If overactive, you’ll attempt escape into spiritual fantasy or withdraw from the material world, recalling that enlightenment also means being fully human.
The resolution is integration: bring spirit and matter, heaven and earth, silence and action together.
3. Physical Manifestations
It is the cause of the nervous system, the brain, the pineal gland, and the entire energy field.
Blocked, you will experience:
- Fogginess or perpetual fatigue
- Crown headache or sensitivity
- Sleep disorder
- Anxiety or light/sound sensitivity
- Disconnection from reality or mission
All of these symptoms translate spiritually into spiritual malnutrition: without inner sense and contemplative peace, one is.
Crown Chakra healing revives the body and mind, bringing them into harmony with the divine, intelligent flow, reconnecting you with your soul’s nature.

4. Crown Chakra Healing & Balancing
It only unfolds by devotion, meditation, and surrendering. It is not solved through effort but through surrender. The more relaxed you are in awareness, the more naturally Sahasrara opens.
- Meditation & Silence
What will stir Sahasrara is morning meditation. Sit still, eyes closed, back straight. Not to focus the mind on breath or mantra, but merely to be. Don’t try to control or achieve anything. Let awareness observe itself. As the days go by, you will find that the mind settles and becomes calm, and luminous stillness begins to permeate your awareness. - Practice of Gratitude
Gratitude opens the Crown. The more you thank life itself, the more you place yourself in awareness. Each “thank you” dissolves a layer of resistance between you and the flow of the divine. - Detachment from Outcome
Sahasrara is the lesson of letting go: do your best, but let go of trying to control the outcome, so life can be as it needs to be. - Conscious Connection
Halt in your tracks and step outside to look up at the sky or stars; feel a sense of connection to something significant and conscious.
The more aware you are of creation, the more open your Crown is. - Mantra & Sound Healing
Say the mantra Om out loud, or listen to soothing binaural tones between 963 Hz, a spiritual connection frequency.
It vibrationally balances the nervous system with higher states of consciousness. - Nourishment of the Body
Since the Crown Chakra is transpersonal, the physical body needs to be an even vessel. Light, high-vibrational food: fruit, green leafy greens, herbal teas. Drink plenty of water. - Selfless Service (Seva)
Nothing quiets the Crown as selfless service. Selfless action melts ego and links you with the universal heart.
5. Inner Work & Journaling Prompts
The reflection anchors spiritual consciousness. Work in your relationship with the divine and release through these journal prompts:
- What does “divine connection” represent to me personally?
- Where am I still resisting, and where am I trusting the process?
- What in life has given me a sense of connection to all that is?
- How do I sense the touch of grace in everyday moments?
- What am I thinking or afraid of that keeps me from being guided by something greater?
- How do I add more silence, more stillness to my life?
- Allow your answers to come above the mind, as if your Higher Self were writing it through you.
6. Crown Chakra Affirmations
Repeat these affirmations daily, morning or before meditation:
- I am one with the Divine light of consciousness.
- The larger plan is happening through me.
- I am under the guidance and care of cosmic intelligence.
- My heart is pure, my mind is pure, and my soul is pure.
- “I vibrate in resonance with my greatest truth.”
- “Divine wisdom flows freely through me.”
- I am whole, complete, and in Source at all times.
7. Mini Guided Meditation: The Thousand-Petaled Lotus
Sit comfortably upright.
Close your eyes and bring awareness to the Crown of your head.
Visualise a glowing, violet-white lotus sitting there.
Visualise with each breath, the petals gradually unfolding, radiating divine light.
Visualise this light flowing down through your body, mind, heart, and every cell.
As the light flows, it dissolves tension, fear, and uncertainty, bringing you peace.
Whisper the mantra Om Shanti Om, peace beyond understanding.
Release in this manner, here, but effortlessly.
Visualise yourself expanding, past form, past self, into infinite space.
When you’re finished, bring awareness back to the body and take this silence with you throughout your day.
Sahasrara Chakra is reminding us this sacred truth: We are not different from the Divine, we are its expression. You are not a drop trying to fight in the ocean; you are the ocean remembering itself through the use of the drop. Liberty from this cage enables you to be liberated from having to control, compare, or compete with anything. You now live from presence: open, humble, and boundless, free.
Awakening the crown chakra is not releasing the world. It is seeing the divine in all: in the child’s slaughter, in the space between the breaths, in the eyes of the stranger, in your own eyes. Enlightenment is not something you acquire. You are your original state. This journey through the chakras brings you back home to yourself, to life, to oneness. As the opening of a thousand-petaled lotus, remember: You were never cut off. You only believed you were cut off from God.
