For the most part when considering and/or instigating a health and well-being program, diet and exercise reign supreme. Meditation and changes to one’s lifestyle or environment may not even be considered. Yet there seems, at this point, to be complete consensus within our health and medical community as to stress being the largest factor, or at least a huge factor, in our well-being. Exercise will definitely help in the resolution of some stress and tension. Yet it doesn’t address the thoughts, worry, reactiveness and all that goes into creating that stress in the first place. It also doesn’t eradicate much of the harm and damage done in the moment this stress is occurring.
You can’t always change your environment for many different reasons. In this case engaging tools like exercise, meditation and boundaries can be very important and helpful. Yet most of the time you can change your environment, even though to do so may be very difficult or even feel overwhelming. Overhauling your or your family’s food diet and media diet is no easy thing, let alone getting out of relationships, changing jobs, schools or even changing where you live. These are huge decisions with multiple ramifications. Yet the bigger the decision the bigger the benefits. What I mean is taking steps to take care of yourself first and foremost is very empowering. You may hear the “selfish” accusations from those around you but those people are ignorant. Remember that you have nothing to give anybody if you are not well. Taking care of yourself is the most generous action one can take. It also provides a great example to all in your life. Like the flight attendant always says, “put your mask on first then help those around you”.
If you are certain the situation you are in is unhealthy then you owe it to yourself and your loved ones to make a shift. This life is your opportunity to be and experience all you can be. And everything you want and are moving toward, that has to be your objective, otherwise you will be sick. This shift can begin with a huge step or with baby steps. Everyone’s journey toward well-being is personal. As your mind stays focused towards your objective there may be many hurdles and even some detours, no matter as long as you stay aware of your objective and that you are headed there you will have a happiness and you will feel contented.
Look at the situation you are in and the challenges you are experiencing now and along the way as important and invaluable. Remember without challenges there is no growth. Don’t allow anger, frustration or any negative emotions to take root. Whether you’re burning off an old karmic debt or simply being forged in the fire of transformation like a phoenix from the flames or like the blacksmith heating the metal red hot then pounding it, shaping it into its pristine form. You are the sword! Nobody can escape challenges, this is how we evolve. So don’t look at challenges as being bad. They are important experiences towards one’s growth yet that doesn’t mean you should willingly sit in them. What’s bad is not making the effort to unstuck oneself.
sincerely, bryan
