If you’d like to refresh your dip selections with something zesty and fun, this recipe is for you! It’s like guacamole, but creamier and bursting with citrus; the perfect way to use ripe avocados in a pinch.
While I enjoy dipping raw veggies like carrots and cauliflower into this, you can also spread it on a sandwich or dollop it onto a salad. It’s so versatile, it’s almost ridiculous… As if plain avocado wasn’t amazing already!
This dip’s got tangy citrus, refreshing cilantro, and a hint of warm spice with the cumin. The flavor profile can work both as a palate cleanser as well as a delicious addition to almost any other flavor combo. I even like to incorporate this into a salad dressing sometimes, so the possibilities for play in the kitchen are endless with this one!
Is Avocado Dip Healthy?
With a little dose of dairy-based protein, plenty of fiber and healthy fats from the avocado, and vitamin C in the citrus, this is one of the healthiest dips you could make.
Yet, at the same time, it’s so luxurious, you won’t even realize how healthy it is. It’s also a way better homemade alternative to common dips and sauces you might find in the grocery store that have added processed sugar and preservatives. All-in-all, avocado dip is one hundred percent sugar-free, gluten-free, and vegetarian. To make it vegan, simply use plant-based yogurt.
What’s the Difference Between This Dip and Guacamole?
While at first, it might seem like they’re one and the same, there are some key differences. For starters, avocado dip has a thick, velvety base of Greek yogurt or sour cream, but guacamole is dairy-free.
While this dip is whipped to velvety perfection, guacamole can be smooth or chunky depending on the preference. Guacamole also sometimes includes tomatoes and other ingredients like cayenne pepper, jalapeños, or chipotle seasoning. Of course, if you crave a little kick like I do, you can also add these spices to this dip and blend the two recipes in harmony.

This dip is best enjoyed right after it’s made, because over time it will turn brown if it’s exposed to air. That’s why I prefer to make this in batches that align with the size of the party or occasion I’m making it for. That being said, if you keep it well-sealed in the fridge, it will stay fresh for up to 3 days. After that, it will start turning brown, and if you notice a liquid separating from the rest of it, it’s time to throw it out!
If you don’t have a food processor, you can use a blender. The best brands I’ve found that can turn almost any ingredients into a nice smooth mix are Ninja and Vitamix.
Aside from the added spices I suggested, you can also boost the flavor profile by adding one tablespoon of lemon juice alongside the lime juice. This will also keep it fresher for longer when you store it in the fridge. I like to zest a bit of lime in there as well for an extra kick.
Serving Suggestions
While you can dip your favorite chips, crackers, or veggies in this, you can also incorporate it into Avocado Toast or Garlic Toast. I like it on a Caprese Sandwich, too.
For some meatier options, you can dollop it onto succulent Lamb Chops or White Chicken Chili. Talk about hearty! Almost every meal can be dressed up with this dip; it’s that delicious.

Ingredients
- 2 ripe avocados
- 1/4 cup Greek yogurt or sour cream
- 1 1/2 tablespoons lime juice
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon cumin
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon cilantro chopped
Instructions

Peel and pit the avocados. In a mixing bowl, mash the avocado flesh until it reaches a smooth consistency. Alternatively, add to a blender and whip to velvety smoothness.
