Say goodbye to takeout and hello to homemade, crispy air fryer wontons!
Usually, when I enjoy a hot, crispy batch of wontons, I’m sitting inside my favorite Asian fusion restaurant. They’re one of my favorite go-to appetizers. And also, until recently, I was under the impression that they’re quite challenging to make. But oh, how wrong I’ve been all this time. Not only are they easy to make, but they can be made in the air fryer! Who was going to tell me?
Air fryer wontons are a revolutionary recipe for me this year! Crunchy and satisfying, they cook in less than 15 minutes in the air fryer, making them an easy meal to whip up quickly. No more need for a big pot of oil to enjoy their flavor, and if you’re new to making wontons at home, you can now skip the restaurant and enjoy them from the comfort of your kitchen.
Are Air Fryer Wontons Healthy?
Air fryer wontons are a wonderfully healthy snack, especially compared to traditional deep-fried wontons. Since they’re low in carbs, fat, and sodium, air fryer wontons are deliciously balanced. However, they may not be suitable for every diet. For example, air fryer wontons are not gluten-free. However, they can be made gluten-free with a few substitutions, such as GF wonton wrappers and coconut aminos instead of soy sauce.
What is the difference between air fryer wontons and crab rangoon?
When you hear “wonton” and “appetizer,” you may immediately think of the delectable crab rangoon. Crab rangoons are wontons filled with crab meat and cream cheese, commonly found on the menus of Asian fusion or Chinese restaurants here in the U.S. They are immensely flavorful, and some believe that they inspired this air fryer wonton recipe. However, air fryer wontons are a lot more nutrient-dense than crab rangoons. Crab rangoons, while delicious and a favorite of mine, are high in calories, fat, and carbs. Therefore, if you’re looking for a healthier wonton to enjoy at home, look no further than the following recipe.

FAQs & Tips
If your main goal when cooking air fryer wontons is to enjoy their satisfying crunch, then I do not recommend making them ahead of time and storing them. Air fryer wontons will be at their crispiest right after cooking. The longer they sit in the fridge, the softer they will become. But if you’d still like to make them ahead of time or made too many and have leftovers, air fryer wontons will stay fresh in the fridge for about 3 days. Just ensure you store them in an airtight container.
To make the perfect air fryer wontons, make sure to place your prepared wontons in a single layer your air fryer. Stuffing them in and overpacking your air fryer will cause your wontons to cook unevenly. Additionally, I recommend brushing all sides of your wontons with oil to create a beautiful, golden-brown finish. This will also aid the crunchiness of your air fryer wontons. Once cooked to perfection, serve immediately so you and your friends, family, or guests can enjoy the best texture and flavor.
Avoid over wetting your wonton wrappers when sealing them, as this can make them soggy. When you’re so excited to enjoy that rewarding crunch, you do not want to take a bite of a soft wonton! You only need to wet your fingers slightly to seal your wontons.
Serving Suggestions
A perfectly crisp air fryer wonton begs to be dipped in a bowl of extra sweet chili sauce, sweet and sour sauce, or even tangy soy sauce. You could also make a spicy mayo or ponzu sauce, which would complement your wontons. If you’re serving air fryer wontons at a party, might I suggest also whipping up some egg rolls, cucumber rolls, or spam musubi? No matter how you enjoy them, I hope you love your homemade air fryer wontons!
