This sweet Strawberry Pie is the perfect dessert for those hot summer days!
Table of Contents
My favorite fruit is the strawberry. It’s the quintessential summer delectable, and I eat as many as I possibly can while they’re in season. I’ll add them to shakes, to smoothies, and yes, to pie. Strawberry pie is a delightfully refreshing dessert, perfect for tea time on hazy sunny days or as the main dessert after a summer grill out.
The key to this pie is fresh strawberries, preferably when they’re in season. Fresh strawberries are salivatingly sweet and complement the tart, lemony glaze of the pie. Oh, and let’s not forget about the flaky, buttery crust! Sure, the recipe calls for store-bought crust, but you could always make your own. Is Strawberry Pie Healthy?
Compared to most pies, I’d say yes! After all, strawberries boast all sorts of good stuff, from vitamins to antioxidants. But the healthiness of this pie also depends on your crust. Some crusts, especially store-bought varieties, can be laden with saturated fats and hydrogenated oils. Select a crust with quality ingredients, or try baking it yourself. Homemade crust is not as hard as you’d think!
The glory of a good glaze…
Fresh strawberries may be the star of the show, but the glaze plays an important supporting role—literally. Aside from adding a sweet tartness, the glaze holds the filling together. It’s basically a binding agent so that when you cut a slice, the filling doesn’t lose its structure. In short, the glaze amps the aesthetics and the taste.

FAQs & Tips
This is a dessert you want to make fresh. Once assembled, leftovers should last about 2 to 5 days in your fridge.
I highly recommend using fresh strawberries, but you can use frozen strawberries if they’re not in season. However, you need to thaw and drain them of excess moisture. Otherwise, your pie might turn soggy—you don’t want that!
A friend taught me this trick: brush the pre-baked crust with a beaten egg white and bake for an extra 5 minutes or so. Like water sealant sprays used on porches, the egg white acts as a moisture protectant, keeping your crust nice and crisp!
Serving Suggestions
Nothing goes better with a slice of pie than a scoop of ice cream. FFF offers a unique (and healthy) selection of recipes, including Cookie Dough Banana Ice Cream, Chunky Monkey Banana Ice Cream Bowls, and even a Cottage Cheese Ice Cream. If you want to stick with the fruit motif, Mango Frozen Yogurt is also a delicious choice.
