I know I have said it before, but I have a sweet tooth that is unmatched – candy, ice cream, and baked goods are my kryptonite. I grew up on churros and donuts, two of the most common desserts in Southern California. When I met my husband, who was raised in Virginia, his guilty pleasure desserts were apple pie and peach cobbler. Apple pie was easy, everyone has tried apple pie, it is the quintessential American pie, but I had never tried a peach cobbler before. The first time I went back east with my husband I tried my first peach cobbler; I immediately understood the hype. Rich, sweet, and filling peach cobbler is pretty much a Southern delicacy. When we returned home, I was on a mission to find the perfect peach cobbler recipe so I could surprise my husband on his birthday. There were a lot of recipes with varying levels of authenticity, some more difficult than others, when I found this recipe, I realized how easy it could be to make a delicious peach cobbler. Now it’s your chance to make your own peach cobbler at home, the easiest way possible.
Some say that the origin of peach cobbler dates back to 1881 when it was first printed in the cookbook “What Mrs. Fisher Knows About Old Southern Cooking” as a recipe from Abby Fisher, a former slave who began to share her recipes with the world. The perfect peach cobbler uses fresh peaches to give a sweet, buttery interior and is perfectly baked to create a crisp top. Each bite is full of peaches and dough, the perfect savory and sweet treat. Traditionally served in the summer when peaches are in season, it tastes like all the best parts of the South. Great for barbecues, birthdays, or holidays if you can find fresh peaches you can make a perfect peach cobbler.
Is Crock-pot Peach Cobbler Healthy?
The healthiness of a dessert is always in question as sugars, flour, butter, and milk are not generally considered the healthiest parts of your diet. This is where the classic rule comes into play: everything in moderation. The beauty of peach cobbler is not needing a huge serving to get all the flavor, you get that in every bite. Peaches themselves are a superfood benefiting heart health, digestion and your immune system. You can also make your peach cobbler vegan by substituting your butter for a plant-based alternative and substituting milk for full-fat coconut milk.
What is the perfect peach for a cobbler?
Just like most fruits, peaches have many varieties that have unique properties. Most commonly you find white or yellow peaches. A white peach has a mild and floral flavor as opposed to the sweeter yellow peach. Because your cobbler is a sweet dessert your best option is a classic yellow freestone peach like a donut peach. You will know the peach is ripe because it will have a golden hue near the stem and will be slightly soft where you grip it. If your peach is too firm, it will not be as sweet and will not yield the best results.

FAQs & Tips
To store leftover peach cobbler allow it to cool to room temperature and transfer it to an airtight sealed container, you can store it in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. The dough will lose its crispiness but not its flavor. You can reheat individual portions in the oven at 350 degrees F for fifteen minutes.
When making your peach cobbler the option of removing the peel is up to you, generally speaking, I like to peel the peaches because I believe the texture of the peaches is more consistent when peeled.
You could try cutting your butter into pats and layering them on top of the peaches so that it incorporates fully as it bakes.
Serving Suggestions
The most important detail when serving your crock-pot peach cobbler is to serve it warm, and allow the flavors to melt in your mouth with a delicious crunch in every warm bite. I also recommend serving your cobbler à la mode with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. If you want your cobbler to be a delicious dessert I recommend serving it after a rich savory meal like Paleo Oven Baked Ribs with 5 Spice and Honey Garlic Glaze or Shredded Slow Cooker Roast Beef which will give you all the heartiness of a true Southern meal.
