The perfect blending of breakfast meets lunch that is good at any time of day.

I am a sucker for breakfast, if I find a place that serves breakfast all day it becomes my favorite restaurant. And I make my family have breakfast for dinner at least once a week. There is something about perfectly made bacon and eggs that you just cannot go wrong with – plus, they go incredibly well with a good juicy burger.
The origin of the fried egg burger has been speculated about but it is assumed to have started with Otto Kuase of Hamburg, Germany – the inventor of the original hamburger. It is said that in 1891 Otto cooked a beef patty in butter and then topped it with an egg.
Since that time, it has simply evolved to become the delicious treat it is today. The perfect blending of breakfast and lunch, with the rich flavors of seasoned ground beef, the saltiness of the bacon and eggs, and the light nutty sweet flavor of the avocado. With every bite you get a blend of all the flavors that make you excited for the next bite.
Are Fried Egg Burgers Healthy?
I have said it time and time again, healthiness is all about perspective and your personal dietary needs. I can tell you that with the ground beef, bacon, and cheese in this recipe it is high in cholesterol and fats but also has avocado which contains healthy fats. This recipe is high in protein and calcium and you can make it gluten-free by replacing the potato bun with a lettuce wrap so that it can be enjoyed by those with a gluten intolerance or celiac disease.
Should I use brown or white eggs?
The decision to use brown or white eggs for a recipe is a question I get asked a lot, so let’s break it down. A few years back there was a rumor going around the internet that brown eggs were healthier than white eggs, a lot of people believe that, but in fact all eggs are nutritionally very similar and thus the same level of healthiness. So, you might also wonder why brown eggs are more expensive at the grocery store if they are not healthier, and the simple answer is financial, brown eggs come from a larger breed of hen, because the hen is larger it eats more food, so the price of the egg is higher. So, to answer the question of which you should use, it’s dealer’s choice.

FAQs & Tips
This is where I normally would tell you how to store leftovers, but with a fried egg burger you should always make them when you are ready to eat them, they will not store well. If you are trying to save time, you can always make your beef patties in advance, form them, and store them raw for up to 3 days in the fridge, then cook when ready.
If you are making your burgers right away this should not be a problem, but as a rule, to keep an avocado from browning introduce citrus to the avocado, the citric acid will keep the avocado from oxidizing and will stay fresh longer.
I always recommend using a leaner ground beef. 85/15 or 90/10 are the ideal fat content ground beef for burgers.
Serving Suggestions
A fried egg burger is an ideal meal all by itself, but that does not mean a side won’t elevate the meal. I love my fried egg burger with a side of diced potatoes or tater tots. You can also have a light salad or pasta salad as a side like Healthy Pasta Salad with Strawberries, Zucchini and Balsamic Vinaigrette. You can also serve your fried egg burger with another breakfast staple like Homemade Healthy Nachos: Breakfast Style.
