The first time I made Buffalo sauce at home, I was amazed at how simple it was to recreate the taste of my favorite wing joint. Seriously, this Buffalo sauce is legit restaurant-worthy. It’s fast becoming a fave for game nights and parties! Best of all, it takes literal minutes to make.
So, what does it taste like? It’s the perfect balance of spicy and tangy. The hot pepper sauce provides a little kick, while the vinegar adds a tangy brightness that balances the creaminess of the butter. In short, it’s delicious, and perfect on pretty much any protein.
Is Buffalo Sauce Healthy?
Buffalo sauce contains some beneficial compounds from hot peppers, such as capsaicin, which has been shown to have metabolism-boosting properties. But there’s a fair amount of butter in this recipe too, so I don’t know if I’d call it healthy per se. It really depends on how much you use. For a healthier version, use a vegan butter substitute. You could also reduce the butter by using a bit of olive oil instead.
Homemade vs. Store-Bought Buffalo Sauce
I’m no stranger to store-bought Buffalo sauce. It’s super convenient in a pinch, and some of them taste quite good. But homemade Buffalo sauce gives you full control of the ingredients you pick, allowing you to adjust things like heat level and spices to suit your preference. What’s more, making the sauce from scratch trumps the overly-processed, sodium-laden flavors of the store-bought variety. Plus, the satisfaction of making your own sauce can’t be beat!
