Gone are the days of store-bought crackers now that we have these crispy, sweet, and savory Gluten-Free, Vegan Crackers.

Luckily, for those who choose to maintain a gluten-free diet or have Celiac disease, there are a ton of options available in stores. Even better though is making them at home so you know exactly what is going into them. Similar to our Flax Seed Crackers these Gluten-Free Crackers are crispy and easy to prepare.
I feel like the gluten-free diet came out of nowhere. Back in 1920, Anton Schar took an interest in the benefits of eliminating wheat from children’s diets. Aside from this, gluten-free seemed to become more popular around 2010. After that gluten-free options started making an appearance in grocery stores, like Trader Joes, and many restaurants began offering choices on their menus.
These crackers are simple, crispy, and like a blank canvas for whatever you are in the mood for. I originally made these for my bestie’s birthday party, for a couple of gluten-free guests to dip in my homemade Hummus. Well, they went fast when everyone was reaching for them to pile on cheddar or honey ricotta, and just eat them plain. Now I double the recipe for parties.
Are Gluten-Free Crackers Healthy?
These gluten-free crackers are made with a few simple ingredients and have protein and fiber. Obviously, they are gluten-free and also vegan-friendly if you use agave instead of honey. They are pretty plain (in a good way!) and have a bit of sweetness and saltiness which make them a perfect vehicle for anything you can think of.
Which Gluten-Free Flour Blend is For you
Almond flour, oat flour, arrowroot, tapioca… The gluten-free flour options are endless. Where do we begin?
This recipe calls for a blend, which is exactly what it sounds like, a blend of any of the many varieties. You can combine these to make a blend with any of the above, but there are also thickening agents required. Some brands I love are Bob’s Red Mill, Namaste, and King Arthur. PLEASE be sure to check the ingredients, especially if you are making this vegan. Some include milk powder. Also, the amount of water needed will vary depending on the flour you use in this recipe.

FAQs & Tips
These crackers will stay good for about a week in an airtight container at room temperature.
Feel free to substitute olive oil, coconut oil, or avocado oil. You will likely need to add more water to the mix and expect a bit of more dense cracker.
If you do not roll the crackers out properly, you may end up with a few thin, burnt, uneven crackers. Be sure to roll between parchment paper and use equal pressure. I don’t mind a little well done and crispy, but you can also just break off these parts and have a rustic look.
Overmixing the dough can lead to a chewy, instead of crispy cracker. Be sure to roll them thin and even for a nice crunchy finish.
These are a great, basic cracker. Consider them a blank canvas and become an artist! Use a dash of fresh herbs, like rosemary, sesame seeds, flaxseed meal, garlic powder or everything bagel seasoning.

Serving Suggestions
My first tip in serving these is to make a couple batches.
Serve them with a tasty dip, like this healthy Spinach Dip (which can be served hot or cold), or something lighter and more refreshing like this amazing Guacamole.

Finally, nothing goes better with the crispy, saltiness of crackers than soup on a cold day. Try this healthy, heartwarming Lentil Soup or my fave indulgance Broccoli and Cheddar Soup .

Gluten-Free Crackers Recipe (Vegan)
Ingredients
- 1 cup gluten-free flour blend
- 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
- 1 tablespoon melted vegan buttery spread
- 1 teaspoon olive oil
- 1/2 teaspoon honey or agave nectar for vegan option
- 1/4 to 1/2 cup water as needed
- Extra sea salt or seasoned salt for topping
Instructions
-
Preheat your oven to 400 degrees F. In a mixing bowl, combine olive oil, vegan buttery spread, and honey (or agave nectar). Stir in gluten-free flour blend and sea salt. Begin with 1/4 cup of water, mixing to form a dough.
-
If the dough is too dry, add more water a tablespoon at a time until it forms a cohesive ball. Be cautious not to add too much water.
-
Sandwich the dough between two sheets of parchment paper. Roll out to approximately 1/8 inch thickness, ensuring evenness to prevent uneven baking.
-
Peel away the top parchment layer. Transfer the bottom layer with the dough onto a baking sheet. Score the dough into 1.5-inch squares with a sharp knife, but do not separate them.
-
Dampen the dough lightly with water, smoothing it with your fingers. Sprinkle with sea salt or seasoned salt.
-
Bake for 15-20 minutes, until crisp, rotating the baking sheet halfway through. Watch closely to avoid over-baking.
-
Allow the crackers to cool completely on the baking sheet before breaking them apart. Store leftovers in an airtight container.
