Table of Contents
I’ve been known to throw one or two legendary parties in my day. (It’s not because I’m so charming, it’s because I go above and beyond when it comes to food. I know this to be true.) At the heart of every good party spread? Wings.
With them I go “above and beyond”. I lay out so many varieties, the local pubs call me up to see if I have extra. And it’s never the same menu, either. At our annual Super Bowl parties, for instance, I make sure I include some new recipes so that there’s a regular rotation, if you will. But the one type I never remove from the set list? These air-fryer garlic and Parmesan chicken wings.
Are Air Fryer Garlic and Parmesan Chicken Wings Healthy?
The nutritional benefits of chicken wings are nothing to brag about, improved only slightly with the inclusion of the celery and carrot sticks. These wings, however, are at least cooked in an air fryer and aren’t smothered in a sugar-laden, ketchupy sauce that you end up tasting more than the chicken. It can be suitable for a gluten-free diet; a low-carb/keto or paleo diet, provided you remove the Parmesan.
What are ‘Party’ Wings?
They are the wings that know when to let loose and have fun. At least, that’s why I have them for dinner so often (see what I did there?). Actually, it may be easier to explain what ‘party’ wings aren’t than what they are. They are your typical assortment of wings minus the tips. That leaves the drumettes and the flats (a.k.a. the wingettes or mid-sections). Apparently, the tips are a drag and really sour the mood at gatherings. Who knew? Well, with them out of the way, that leaves more sauce and seasoning for the drumettes and wingettes. You may realize at this point that party wings are tasty, indulgent wings; all killer, no filler. Like any good party.

FAQs & Tips
Let the wings cool then store them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days. You can reheat them in your air fryer at 300°F for three minutes. To freeze them, lay all the wings out on a cookie sheet then flash-freeze them until solid. Now you can put them in a freezer-safe bag and not worry about them freezing to each other. They should keep for up to three months.
Yep. Bear in mind fresh garlic is more intense. It’s also harder to distribute evenly among the wings, so you may have one bite that is totally garlicky and another that isn’t at all.
Don’t use too much oil. Just a light brushing is necessary. Did you overcrowd the air-fryer basket? Doing so prevents the heat from accessing all angles of the wings and could lead to less-than-crispy skin. You can also try turning up the temperature for the last portion of the cooking process.
You can. Baking powder reduces the moisture and can lead to crispier wings. If you are having difficulty reaching the level of crispiness you’re after, add 1–2 tablespoons to the coating.
Sky’s the limit. You can try barbecue sauce, honey mustard, garlic Parmesan (if you want more of the same flavor), teriyaki, blue cheese, chipotle lime, and/or sriracha mayo; it really depends on which flavors you’re into.
Use a meat thermometer to take the guessing out of the equation. Insert it into a thick part of meat; it should be 165°F.
