You’ll never guess the secret ingredient to these scrumptious salted chocolate brownie bites. It’s Medjool dates! They not only bind together all the other ingredients, they also lend a rich caramel taste and chewy texture similar to traditional brownies. Native to Morocco, it’s no wonder the dates were once known as “the fruit of kings.” Although most dark chocolate is already vegan, you can ensure these salted chocolate brownie bites remain vegan by using vegan chocolate. Are Salted Chocolate Brownie Bites Healthy?
These brownie bites are not only healthy, they’re naturally gluten-free, and easily made vegan by using the right chocolate. Nearly every ingredient is packed with superpowers. The Medjool dates, for instance, add plenty of sweetness and fiber. High in antioxidants, protein, and fiber, almonds help keep your heart healthy, reduce blood pressure, and lower “bad” cholesterol. Not bad for such a versatile little nut. They’re full of good-for-you nutrients, from magnesium to vitamin E. Feel free to substitute other equally impressive nuts, such as walnuts.
Boasting high levels of the essential fatty acid omega-3, hemp seeds and flax meal also provide a great source of plant protein, vitamins and minerals. Rich in lignans, flaxseeds may also possess cancer-fighting properties. And who doesn’t love the taste of chocolate? Plus, it’s full of antioxidants and anti-inflammatory ingredients. Remember, the darker the chocolate, the healthier.
Why Use Pink Salt?
Pink salt adds complexity to intrigue our tastebuds. It also amplifies the flavor of the other ingredients. Pink sea salt is very similar to Himalayan pink salt, which may contain higher amounts of iron, potassium, and magnesium. These unrefined salts are considered a bit healthier than their iodized counterparts since they contain more minerals and a bit less sodium. They all work well with chocolate, toning down the bitterness of cacao, while amplifying the sweetness of the dates, creating a delightfully bittersweet dance.
